Provide a safety place, some where away from the situation such as under a bed or in a room the dog feels comfortable in. Play a soft radio or run a portable fan to cover up the noise that is frightening him. To prevent an injury to the dog, their safe place should be a location where they do not feel trapped. While some of us may think the dog’s create is a safe place, your dog may cause injury to itself trying to escape.

Distraction can help. Know your dog’s body language. If you notice your dog getting anxious, trying getting him involved in a good game of fetch or work on some obedience training. Reward and praise him for focusing on you and not the stimulation that is causing his anxiety.

Stay calm. Your dog can sense your anxiety.

Do Not Reward the behavior. Reassuring may increase the fearful behavior. Just go about your normal activities.

Do Not Punish your dog. This will only make his fear worst.
